Greatest Players from UNC
The University of North Carolina Tar Heels is one of the most respected and highly acclaimed collegiate teams in USA collegiate basketball history. The transition from collegiate to professional basketball is never easy and many highly anticipated and promising prospects failed to live up to expectations. UNC's products has been among the best in the NBA.Michael Jordan- Famous during his collegiate career after leading to the NCAA title in 1982, Jordan was considered as the best basketball player who ever set foot on the court. He led the Chicago Bulls to 6 titles in the 90's turning the Bulls into the team of the decade and was a 5-time NBA regular season MVP, 6-time NBA Finals MVP, 10-time scoring champion, 14 All-Star Game Selections, 11 All-NBA First Team Selections, 9-time All-Defensive First Team selection, a member of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of all time, and a 2-time Olympic gold medalist. Jordan finished his professional career averaging 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.8 blocks a game in 1071 games. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009. James Worthy - Played for UNC from 1978 to 1982, Worthy helped the Tar Heels into a runner-up finish in 1981 and was UNC's leading scorer as a junior. Worthy played for Los Angeles as a professional and was a member of the showtime Lakers that dominated the Western Conference in the 80's. Worthy is a 3-time NBA champion, 7-time NBA All-Star, an NBA Finals MVP in 1988, and a member of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players of all time. Played for the Lakers in all of his 14 seasons in the NBA, Worthy was playing behind the shadows of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson but his effectiveness and contributions to the court is unmatched. Worthy was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003. Vince Carter - Though not as decorated and well-accomplished as Michael Jordan nor James Worthy, Vince Carter is one of the most entertaining basketball stars the NBA has ever seen. Drafted in 1998 by the Toronto Raptors, Carter became an instant sensation and a major attraction very known because of his dunks, especially after winning the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest and dunking over a 7 foot person.
